The City of Jacksonville Beach has over 4.1 miles of white sandy beaches with one mile of oceanfront boardwalk. The SeaWalk Pavilion is a stage and amphitheater located beside the boardwalk. Jacksonville Beach is renowned for its annual festivals including Fiesta Playera, a celebration of Latin music and culture, Springing the Blues, the Cajun Crawfish Festival, The Beaches Festival, Moonlight Movies and the Key West Conch Festival. Jacksonville Beach, the largest and southernmost of the beach communities, is located east of Jacksonville. Since the first resort hotel was built in the 1890s, Jacksonville Beach has long been a favorite of residents looking to escape the frantic pace of the city. It was incorporated as a town named "Pablo Beach" in 1907; the name was changed to "Jacksonville Beach" in 1925.
Today, Jax Beach, as it is known to locals is a business, resort, and residential community with its own police and fire departments and a full range of government and recreational services for its residents.
Ponte Vedra Beach is an unincorporated seaside community 18 miles southeast of downtown Jacksonville. In 1916 the community was a titanium and zircon mining site, earning it the nickname, "Mineral City." Today Ponte Vedra Beach is best known for its miles of beautiful white sand beaches and its association with golf and tennis—it is the home of the Association of Tennis Professionals and PGA Tours as well as the host city for The Players golf tournament. Tennis is also a popular Ponte Vedra Beach pastime; the city has 60 tennis courts. Residents run the gamut from young families with children to retirees; housing options are equally varied with single family homes, condos, beachside residences, golf course properties and gated communities. Ponte Vedra Beach was a finalist on CNN and Money magazine's 2005 list as one of the best places to live in the U.S.
